Purifying Water using UVA LEDs
Typically, UVC generated by mercury containing bulbs is used to get rid of microbial contaminants in water
However, UVC is a known carcinogen and mercury is highly toxic for humans and the environment.
This design uses UVA LEDs (which are much safer and do not contain mercury) and the synergistic effect of UVA and heat, which states that heating water to a specific temperature makes microbes susceptible to UVA radiation, eliminating the need for high-energy, less-efficient UVC light.
